Quitting Cigarettes for the New Year

Sunday, January 1st, 2012 | Permalink

Cheers to a New Year and another chance for us to get it right.” -Oprah Winfrey

Happy New Year to you all!  I have said it before and God knows I have tried before, but on this New Year’s Day I am hell bent on quitting smoking cigarettes for good. I have smoked for a solid 24 years and I can’t remember what it is like to not smoke.

I have three packs of cigarettes left and that means a three day supply, but over the course of the next several days (or more) I am going to ignore the routine I have created over the last 24 years. Hopefully, I can replace my bad habit with a better one! My source of inspiration this time has come from a site called, Lifestyle Changeup, you should check it out! (more…)

A Face Created by Meth and Illness

If you’re a meth addict you either throw in the towel and go into treatment, or you scramble to find some other way to get it.” ~Curt Smith

Faces of Meth

Many of us have heard of the website, Faces of Meth, that show before and after photos of meth addicts. These pictures are frightening enough but the face meth gave me was a bit different. The face you see above is my face after more than two years of heavy meth use which led directly to the poorest health of my life. (more…)

How Did I Quit Crystal Meth?

Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.” ~Mahatma Gandhi

Worth It?I received an email yesterday from a reader who asked me how I quit crystal meth. It made me wonder, have I never mentioned that? I can be very scatter-brained so it’s very likely I haven’t which is shocking, yet not shocking hence the scatter-brain.

There is no simple answer to the question and it’s much too long to write up in one day, so I’ll answer this in a series, today being part one.

Denial to Acceptance

Knowing you have the problem is step one, I know – how very cliché. But true! (more…)

Gratitude for Being Kicked in the Ass

When you are grateful fear disappears and abundance appears.” ~ Anthony Robbins

Recently, a friend asked me a question about my experience with methamphetamines and illness. If I weren’t so ill I may not have needed urgent hospitalization and I may have kept using Meth, among other things (GHB, ecstasy, & God knows what else). I saw signs and other red flags that should have caused me to quit meth but they were ignored and dismissed. (more…)

Journal: Bored Ex-Meth User

The concept of boredom entails an inability to use up present moments in a personally fulfilling way.” ~Wayne Dyer

I was curled up on my bed with my head on my pillow, exhausted and feeling unsure of what to do with myself. I felt as though I couldn’t move a muscle and all I wanted was to give in  ….close my eyes, pull up a blanket, and fall asleep.

I began to think about this website and if there was anything I wanted to say? Nothing related to meth and my former addiction is floating around in my mind so what do I do? Maybe my writing about nothing makes me seem more “normal” as opposed to what people label ex-meth addicts to be like? (more…)

Using Meth Can Destroy Those Who Love You

Experience is a hard teacher because she gives the test first, the lesson afterward.” ~ Vernon Law

Chaos insideI was approximately 1,300 miles away from most of my family when I got mixed up with crystal meth. They had their lives at the opposite end of the country while I was secretly killing myself. It was extremely easy to keep them from ever knowing what I had fallen into.

It would have been different if we had lived close to each other, especially in the same town. I probably would have disappeared most weekends so I could have avoided being caught at my home.  My family may have noticed red flags like: (more…)

Meth In My Relationship

Methamphetamine is a hideous drug. Meth makes a person become paranoid, violent, and aggressive – making them a serious threat to society and law enforcement. And maybe more importantly, meth users are a threat to their own children and families.” ~ Dirk Kempthorne

I am Hyde!I have to acknowledge more about my relationship with my now deceased boyfriend, Simon. It was my association with him that led me down the road of heavy drug use, namely crystal meth.

I have to admit I was already using before I met him, but it got far worse and far darker after I met him. It wasn’t as though he pushed me into it because I pursued him. I often wonder if I pursued him for all the wrong reasons. I don’t know why I wonder because I know it was for the wrong reasons. (more…)

Meth, Fear, and Sex In The City

Some of us can be examples about going ahead and growing, and some of us, unfortunately, don’t make it there, and end up being examples because they had to die. I hit rock bottom, but thank God my bottom wasn’t death.” ~ Stevie Ray Vaughan

Meth Demon

A few years ago there was a lonely and confused guy who seemed to make bad decisions. Far from his home, he now lived in a place where all he knew had changed. Going to Starbucks and a movie was replaced with crystal meth and promiscuity. He became involved in the wrong crowd and this way of life was new to him and he had no idea how to act, what to say, or who to trust. (more…)

A Slave to Cigarettes

If we see you smoking we will assume you are on fire and take appropriate action.” ~ Douglas Adams

I have quit using Ecstasy, GHB, Cocaine, and Crystal Meth, but I find it 1,000 times more difficult to quit smoking cigarettes. Is it because it is more socially acceptable and I can smoke whenever I feel like it?  Is it because I can buy it anywhere legally? (more…)

If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion.” ~ The Dalai Lama

The ugly truth of associating with meth addicts is that you have an excellent chance of being used and abused. When you “party” with them you are not their friend and they definitely are not yours. You may hear, “I’m doing this for you,” or “I’m trying to make you happy.” Don’t fall for it, their only concern is making themselves happy and you are just a tool. (more…)
